The houses are all stuck together and the alleys are very narrow with many stairways. The buildings are made characteristic by the balcony balconies also called “Mugnal”. Worth seeing in Carpino are the historic centre, the remains of the Norman-Swabian Castle and the Mother Church consecrated in 1678.
Carpino is known for the production of extra virgin olive oil and is a Slow Food presidium for the production of broad beans. Twice a year a festival is held to savor these typical products: mark your calendars for December 7th and August 12th! The “Palo di San Rocco” has been held in Carpino since the early 1900s, a competition on horseback that begins in the central square of the town where the parish priest blesses jockeys and horses.
