The most beautiful trails in the Umbra Forest

We propose the paths of the Umbra Forest in order of time and distance, so you can decide according to your abilities. We are sure it will be a great experience you will not forget.

Trail N.15 -LAKE OF OTRI- MURGIA

Journey time 1.00 h It is a path that winds through an expanse of beech trees where you can spot local fauna such as the white hornbeam. You will also be amazed by the flora: holly, butcher’s broom and other more particular ones such as the Daphne laureola, the Sanicula europaea and the Fragaria vesca. This path can be reached from the road that leads to Torre Palermo.

Path N.10 – Table-Pantry

Journey time: 1.15h The route consists of a pleasant walk through a beech forest up to the locality of Tavolone, the flora that you will see will be the butcher’s broom, holly and ferns. Along the path you will be able to see the Grava di Coppa di Stella, with a depth of 40 m and an underground development of 22 m. Continuing further, you will come across a forest of holly trees, some of which are tree-like. For the lunch break you can take advantage of the splendid picnic area!

Trail No. 11 – Pantry – Lake Otri

Journey time: 1.30h You will walk at the bottom of a small valley bordered by populations of beech and Hungarian maple, if you are lucky you will be able to glimpse the hop hornbeam, a tree of the Betulaceae family. From this path it is also possible to reach path n.10, so if the walk has not tired you enough, you can lengthen your path!

PATH N.3 – Baracconi – Umbrian-sea road

Travel time: 3 hours. The path starts at less than 1 km. away from the buildings of the Forestry Administration of Umbra, in the locality of Baracconi. It is the ideal route for those planning to spend the night in a tent or caravan because it has a space set up especially for campers. Also ideal for those who suffer a lot from the heat because the route is almost always in the shade and protected by the characteristic dense vegetation.

Along the way you will find the Turkey oak with its brownish-gray bark and its large green crown. You will also find clematis plants, a climber that with its lianas wraps the foliage of the beech trees generating special light effects. Crossing the stretch of ridge you will find the Trente Malpasso and the Treasure Valley immersed in a vegetation composed of elm, opal and field maple and linden. In the middle of your journey you can choose whether to continue on this road or take the path of the mule track that leads to the Grava di Melanotte.

Tired? Here you are repaid by a beautiful panorama. In fact, towards the end you will be enchanted by the view of Peschici in a vegetation that favors shade thanks to the presence of Aleppo pines. The path ends with the Umbra-Mare road, before Caritate. Between nature, walks and picnics, what are you waiting for? The Umbra Forest is ready to amaze you with its treasures and biodiversity.
