Gargano with kids: activities to do [2023]

If you are organizing your holidays on the Gargano with children, in this article you will find the best activities to do together, the green flag beaches and excursions suitable for young and old. Enjoy the reading!

Activities on the Gargano with children

A holiday with children is truly perfect when the activities to do manage to involve and excite the whole family. Without delay, let’s get straight to the heart of the article!

Paleontological park

In Borgo Celano, a small fraction of San Marco in Lamis, there is a unique place of its kind that will let you and your children take a leap into the Paleolithic. We’re talking about the paleontological park. It is both a park and an interactive museum: nothing to do with the classic one-way museums where boredom is around the corner. It was built here because it is where dinosaur footprints were really found: this makes it even more impressive!

In the museum there are illustrative panels but also films and reconstructions that will prepare you for the external visit of the park. Once you get out, you will be able to walk a path with real tracks, reconstruction of the habitat and life-size dinosaurs that even roar and move! For children, fun is guaranteed as well as the possibility of learning many notions about these mammoth animals that lived 120 million years ago. Adventure park “I montanari”

For lively children, however, there is the “I montanari” (the mountaineers) adventure park. It is an uncontaminated place where children can let off steam, have fun and experience the thrill of adventure. It is located inside the Bosco Isola di Lesina. This park has 7 different courses, five for the older ones and two for the younger ones. Secular oaks shelter from the sun, so you can stay outdoors and have fun at any time of day.

Malacological Museum

If your children also spend hours collecting shells, we have identified an unmissable stop for you. In Vieste, the Malacological Museum with more than 12,000 shells from all over the world was born out of the passion for the sea of its inhabitants. A place to learn more about the history of these fascinating specimens but above all to be able to admire them in all their shapes and colors. If you like to collect them, the museum also has an area dedicated to shopping.

Beaches for children on the Gargano

Keeping the kids entertained for the duration of the trip can be a real challenge! That’s why we’ll soon reveal a place for all those superhero-loving kids. However, we haven’t thought only of them. We know that the priority for parents is safety, so by continuing to read, you’ll find out how to understand if a beach is really suitable for children.

The Pippistrelli (bats) cave

The beach of the cave of the bats is a small strip of sand that takes its name from the homonymous wide and deep cave where once the bats used to nest. It can be reached on foot from the beach of Vieste. While you parents enjoy the water that turns from emerald green to blue, your children can indulge themselves with a thousand fantasy stories. Do you want a suggestion? Tell them that Batman always stays here when he comes to Italy and you will have conquered them! 😉

How to understand if the beaches are safe

To be sure that a beach is suitable for your children, you can refer to the Green Flags. In fact, to assign this specific symbol there are a series of necessary requirements. For example, it is considered that the water does not become deep immediately, that there are sufficient spaces between the umbrellas to play, the presence of lifeguards, facilities for changing diapers and sandy beaches are preferred. Here are the Green Flags in the Gargano:

Excursions on the Gargano with children

If your children are already grown up, or in any case they already know how to swim well, an unforgettable day is certainly the one on the Tremiti Islands. Of the five islands, only two are inhabited (San Nicola and San Domino). It is an uncontaminated place, rich in flora and fauna, inlets and coves. Precisely because of these characteristics, there are several sites where you can go snorkelling, both independently and with the instructor, and for those who wish, it is also possible to take scuba diving lessons.
