Borgo Celano is a fraction of San Marco in Lamis, on the Gargano, at about 668 meters above sea level. Always a fundamental stop for pilgrims, it is a village surrounded by nature where you can enjoy the clean air to regenerate yourself.
Borgo Celano is a fraction of San Marco in Lamis, along the state road 272 towards San Giovanni Rotondo. The name “Borgo Celano” was originally “Villaggio San Matteo”. It was built at the beginning of the 1900s at the foot of Monte Celano, on the proposal of the friars, as a strategic point to welcome pilgrims heading to Monte Sant’Angelo. It was as a home for the peasants and as a place to experience convalescence. This village becomes so populated that the Church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Immaculate Conception soon rises.
A very interesting locality aspect is that Borgo Celano became the reference point for spending one’s holidays and was therefore one of the first tourist attractions near Foggia. Over time, the tourist interest in this area has been lost but the fact remains that it is located in an environmental and natural context in which it is worth immersing yourself. For this reason, if you want to breathe clean air, plan a stop in Borgo Celano!
Furthermore, if traveling with children, the Paleontological Museum and Dinosaur Park is located here. It is an interactive museum followed by a park where the dinosaurs are life-size, a wonderful educational but also suggestive experience!

In Borgo Celano, the Gargano Mountain Reclamation consortium together with the Gargano National Park financed the construction of a 7000 square meter nursery. The goal is the production of native shrubs and trees and a botanical garden with the aim of preserving endangered plant species of extinction. The goal is precisely to conserve biodiversity, reforest and protect ancient fruit trees.
