Vieste is certainly the most touristic town of the Gargano. Beautiful beaches and a suggestive historic center are a perfect mix for unforgettable holidays.
The village of Vieste is the most visited of the Gargano. We advise you to immerse yourself in the historic center which winds along the rocky spur. This part called “Vieste Vecchia” dates back to the Middle Ages, recognizable by the narrow streets, the belvederes on the sea and the city walls. Walking in this area of the town is really very suggestive, especially in the evening when in summer the streets are filled with artisans and local products.
Among the things to see we suggest the Cathedral and the Swabian Castle, both in the area of the medieval village. The first dates back to 1242 at the behest of Frederick II and today it is a military headquarters and therefore not always open to visitors. Do not miss Punta San Francesco which ends directly on the sea and for strategic reasons inhabited since ancient times. The beaches are also not to be missed, in particular that of Pizzomunno with its symbolic 25-metre-high monolith.
If you visit Vieste in August, don’t miss the “blue fish festival” where you can taste the fresh catch of the day.
